Become a Race Driver

"Racing is Life. Before and after is just waiting"

Who wouldn't want to become a race Driver? It's fast, fun and challenging. Whilst Formula 1 is the pinnacle of the sport, driver places are limited but that does not mean that you cannot gain huge enjoyment racing at the lower levels of the sport. And who knows, one day, it may be you at the top of the podium at Abu Dhabi.

The truth is that all Formula 1 drivers started somewhere. At AUH Motorsports, we look to getting you started on the bottom rung in what is probably the World's most exciting sport.

Our Steps to the Top:

  • The first stage is talk to us. We can advise you on all aspects of how to go racing and give you an early indication of what the likely costs will be. Motor racing is expensive but we aim to make it as affordable as possible.
  • The next step is to take an introductory course with one of our experienced instructors. This will be a one hour session with first, the Instructor driving you, and then you driving the instructor. Assuming that he is comfortable with the safety aspects of your driving, then you can move on to the next step.
  • Track day rental. Starting with one of the Newcomer track days (where everybody is learning), your confidence can be built up which will enable you to move onwards to the regular track days. By participating in the Dubai Autodrome and Yas Marina track days in one of our Trackday cars, your basic driving skills can be developed. These Track days are strictly not races but they will enable you to learn the tracks, experience driving with other race cars on track and develop your basic car handling skills. With all of our cars fitted with cameras and data recording equipment your progress can be monitored by our instructors.
  • Then comes the Race licence. When you are comfortable with the cars and the tracks you will need to obtain a Race licence. Dubai Autodrome runs courses and conducts a final driver assessment. This takes the form of a practical driving test together with a short written test. Although the thought of a test may be daunting to some people, it really is nothing to be worried about. The key to the test is whether you have a sound understanding of the various signal flags that can be shown when racing, whether you have an appreciation of the safety aspects of racing and whether your examiner would be happy to be racing alongside you on the track. It's really all about safety which is in your best interests.
  • After successfully obtaining your licence, it's probably best to continue with some more lessons in anticipation of the "Big Day" your first race. You may by this time have purchased your own race car. There are many makes, and although we are the Radical Sportscar Distributor, we can advise you on what is the most suitable car for you. If you haven't yet bought a car, you can always use our "Arrive and Drive" service which provides you with a fully prepared race car and all of the necessary support whilst at the track.
  • On the "Big Day" we will guide you through the various processes, introduce you to your race mechanic, run through the days programme with you and make sure that you thoroughly enjoy the experience. Your race data will be analysed by our team and we will proffer advice on how the car can be set up to maximise the full potential of your driving style. We'll even make sure that you get to the podium presentation in time, to collect your race winning trophy. (Always assuming that you've won!!)

After that, it's up to you. We can continue to provide regular instruction and coaching sessions and as your confidence and skills develop, the sky is the limit.
